Puppy Tips
I've written a few articles that you might find helpful as you prepare to bring a puppy home. You can use these as a starting point, but every dog is different! Check back, I'll add updates occasionally.
If you're thinking about getting a puppy, you've probably have an idea of what breed would be best for you. But choosing a breed is only the first step. The real test comes when you're face-to-face with a litter of adorable puppies and have to decide which one to take home. That's where the "puppy test" comes in.
We all want our furry friends to live long and healthy lives. But what happens when unexpected medical bills start piling up? That's where pet insurance comes in. Pet insurance is a way to protect your pet's health and your wallet from unexpected veterinary costs.
Ah, the joys of potty training a puppy. It's a rite of passage for every new dog owner. But let's face it, it can be a messy and frustrating process. Fear not, my friends. With a little patience and persistence, you can have your puppy potty trained in no time. Click here for tips to get you started.
Must have products:
Leashes
Extendable leash (after you've done leash training)
Gentle leader: gently corrects pulling behavior, works best if you start early
Crate: it's helpful for pups to get comfortable in a crate (for when you need to leave the house and you just don't fully trust them yet). Make the crate a warm and friendly place, not used for punishment.
Collars: This is such a personal choice, and there are thousands of options. My favorite is the "Tuff Pupper" which holds up great to all our swimming.
Shark and other soft toys for a gentle mouth: Theo loves his shark so much we have three, aptly named Shark One, Shark Two, and Shark Three. Use soft toys for puppies to help develop a "soft mouth".
High value treats: Cycle in high value dog treats for "jackpots" to keep training interesting. I like these freeze dried liver treats.
Odor cleaning: K.O.E. Kennel cleaner is my #1 recommendation. It eliminates odors and can be used as a laundry additive for towels and bedding.
